CPD WORKSHOP

Integrating Creative Arts Methods in Counselling & Psychotherapy

About the workshop

Working with art in counselling and psychotherapy can be an incredibly powerful and transformational approach and understanding how to integrate creative methods safely is key to good practice in counselling and psychotherapy.

In this workshop we will explore how creative methods can:

– promote relational depth

– engage unconscious material and processes

– help process distressing experiences and emotions

– promote psychological integration and self-awareness.

I will present case study examples to illustrate creative methods from a person-centred and pluralistic perspective. There will be a mix of experiential learning, discussion, and creative arts practice. You will be introduced to exercises you can use with clients at any level of training and experience. Creative materials will be provided.

The workshop aims to help you develop skills and understanding to integrate creative methods into counselling and psychotherapy practice with any modality.

Learning Aims

The workshop aims to help participants to:

– distinguish between using art ‘as’ therapy and art ‘in’ therapy

– understand some of the benefits of using creative methods in therapy

– develop skills and confidence to use creative methods

– develop their understanding of how to work safely.

Who is it for?

The workshop is suitable for counsellors, psychotherapists, students, and supervisors. Participants are advised that working with creative methods can very quickly connect to unconscious material, and you may want to talk with a therapist afterwards.
