CPD WORKSHOP
Body Psychotherapy for Therapists
About the workshop
There is growing interest in the field of body psychotherapy. Inviting the body more directly into the therapeutic relationship can help to access the parts of a client’s experience that words cannot reach. This course will give you background theory on how and why body-centred techniques work, and ‘bodylistening’ skills to help you contact and work directly with the body.
Expect a mixture of theory, demonstration, experiential work and some fun.
Topics include
Theoretical background: Neo-Reichian body psychotherapy, attachment theory and the development of character.
The Bodylistening model: A simple framework to help you include the body in the therapy space.
Body dialogue and process: How to talk to the body and encourage its responses. Body-gestalt techniques.
Working with channels: Using the channels of Image, Movement, Breath, Emotion, Sensation, Thought.
Trauma: Working with body-held trauma. Understanding trauma as a response to overwhelm, and how to work creatively without causing retraumatisation.
The body in relationship: Embodied-Relational approaches to therapy – how bodies relate in a client-therapist environment. Listening to my own body.
Who is it for?
This course is for anyone interested in body psychotherapy, with a minimum Counselling Skills Level 2 completed.
